Travel from Sapporo / New Chitose Airport by JR train, or from Asahikawa Airport by bus.

After check-in Relax at Sounkyo Gorge Onsen
Once you've checked in, take time to unwind in the hot springs and ease the fatigue of travel. If time allows, enjoy a short walk around the Sounkyo Gorge Onsen area, while soaking in the distinct atmosphere created by the surrounding cliffs. You may also head over to the Kurodake Ropeway base station to enjoy a nice bit of scenery and get a preview of the next day’s activities. Rather than packing on sightseeing, the best way to enjoy Sounkyo Gorge Onsen is to relax at your own pace.

Depart around 8:00 a.m. and head to the Kurodake Ropeway base station.

Kurodake Ropeway
Walking distance from Sounkyo Gorge Onsen, Kurodake Ropeway offers spectacular views of the Daisetsuzan Mountain Range. The ropeway ascends to the fifth station, where panoramic views open out over the gorge below and the surrounding peaks. The change in scenery that comes with altitude is a must, with the early morning hours providing a quieter, stress-free experience. This light, breezy mountain experience can be worked into all manner of itineraries.
9:15 a.m.-9:30 a.m. Kurodake Ropeway Fifth Station Observation Deck
From the fifth station observation deck reachable via the Kurodake Ropeway, sweeping views open out across the Sounkyo Gorge and the mountain ranges of Daisetsuzan. As the elevation increases, both the air and the scenery change noticeably, transforming even brief visits into true mountain experiences. You can even enjoy a light walk around the surrounding area, while taking in the view. On clear days, the expansive panorama stretches far into the distance, producing a sense of vast openness.
Descend via the Kurodake Ropeway around 11:00 a.m..
Around midday, return to the Sounkyo Gorge Onsen area for lunch at a nearby restaurant or a short rest at the accommodation.
Afternoon Sounkyo Gorge Walking Trail
Carved by the volcanic activity of the Daisetsuzan Mountains, Sounkyo Gorge is renowned for its dramatic scenery, featuring towering columnar cliffs and steep rock walls. The well-maintained walking trail along the river offers close-up views of the gorge's impressive depth and striking rock formations, allowing visitors to experience the grandeur of Sounkyo even on a short walk.
The trail is relatively easy to walk, and comfortable walking shoes or sneakers are all you need.

Arrive in Asahikawa around 12:05 p.m..
Enjoy lunch and sightseeing in Asahikawa.
